The Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra begins its 2007-08 season as one of the fifth oldest orchestras in Western Canada.
The vision of the SSO to thrive and grow differentiates it from many Canadian orchestras. The musical repertoire balances vital, edgy performances of older more established works, with new creations, to challenge as well as to entertain a sophisticated and engaged Saskatoon audience.
With the city of Saskatoon verging on major growth, attracting new business development and professionals from other parts of Canada, the people choosing our community are seeking “quality of life” factors such as our vibrant orchestra and an exciting artistic scene.
“As a major and growing employer in Saskatoon and region, Cameco emphasizes the quality of life in our city to potential employees. The Saskatoon Symphony is a huge part of the city’s lifestyle in terms of its influence on music in all parts of our community … also teaching, touring, and spin-offs into jazz and contemporary music forms.”
Colin Macdonald
Cameco Vice President of Exploration
“… Arts are the heart of the community and we are fortunate to be privileged by the big warm heart of the Symphony which has helped to make Saskatoon the culturally vibrant city that it is.”
Peter McKinnon
President of the University of Saskatchewan
