Ryan Davis is a grade 12 student at Walter Murray Collegiate in the French Immersion Program. He began violin lessons when he was almost 9, but saw the light and switched to viola at 14. Ryan has studied with James Legge since 2002. He has been a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada in 2008 and 2009, and of the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra since the 2008-2009 season. During the fall of 2001, Davis was fortunate to spend a semester in Vienna during his father’s sabbatical, attending many musical performances, which contributed to his interest in music. In addition to classical music, Davis enjoys playing double bass in his high school jazz band and also in a duo with a guitarist friend. They co-write acoustic music and have an EP cd coming out in 2009. When he is not playing music, Ryan enjoys many extra-curricular activities including school basketball, ultimate frisbee, canoe club, X-country running, school musical productions, and longboarding. Ryan is an active graphic artist, who enjoys any sort of design or art with lots of colour. In future, he hopes to pursue a career in music. Ryan plays a viola made by local luthier, Darren Molnar.
